It's called verdigris in English. You can use virgin olive oil to remove verdigris. Put it on and let it sit for some time then use a q-tip to rub it off. It won't hurt anything.

In the past I have used a very fine paint brush to gently brush the worst off. Then some mild soapy water and clean gently with damp cloth or q tip even a baby wipe. Dry thoroughly then apply a tiny amount of vaseline over the area leave and rub off. Its hard to get it all off but in my opinion you need to take some measures as it never gets any better. At least your is quite accessible and not in a hard to reach place. Just be gentle.

haha it does sound like a magic formula but there is nothing magic about the nasty stuff. Damp conditions are the culprit. Let us know what worked for you.

As already mentioned its not zinc pest but verdigris.

I have had very good luck removing it with vaseline. And it doesn't damage or alter the rest of the badge so go for it if you dont want it being there

Just put something between the cross and the ribbon before you go adding the vaseline. You don't want any on the ribbon.
