    1957 Ek1

Well .. like they say .. once you start ... you cant stop

This fellow came today. EK1 '57. Once again from good old Deutschland

This has non-magnetic center, it is three piece construction ... and in as close to mint condition as you like. Fairly heavy piece too ... don't have the weight (dont have the nifty lab scales at home), but it should come on the GOA.

The scanner does dull the features somewhat.

    Any thoughts you 57 dudes?

    Darrel,
Is this a later cross? I like it. The 3 looks like a K&Q. I want to get a 57 ek2 to add to my collection. Brian

I will soon have a look at it. Does it have any traces of black paint on the frame ?

              I love that EK2 marked 4

              Later.

Looks like a typical late non magnetic ek1 ( possibly S&L). If compared to wartime ek1s or early 1957 ek1s this example has twice the thickness and heavier.

Thanks Henri. Yes . it is quite thick and heavy.

When you say "late" what approximate date are you talking about? Thanks.

Peter, thanks. It was a very nice one. Looks very nice. Even compared to WW2 made EKs.

When we say "late" about 1957 awards, it is from the 80´s and on. The EK2 marked 4 is a very early one made in the 60´s. The EK1 is typical late one with the hinge far in on the back plate. The early ones have the hinge close to the edge.

                        Cheers.

Late as 1990 onwards. To be honest I wonder if these are still produced today.

Picture below shows the different hinges, The outside ones are early (70s) and the middle one is very early from wartime leftovers ( unmarked L/11).

                          Regards

                          Henri

I know that these late 1957 crosses with paint on the frame and no frosting goes back to the 80´s. I started to collect in the middle of the 80´s and saw these 1957 crosses back then. I had them in my own hand and remember the black paint that came up on the frame. I saw that on the EK1 and RK. This is how i know that they date back to the 80´s.

                              Cheers.
