Exellent medal ! IMO a bit harder to find then the KC, but not priced and appreciated the same by collectors.

A very nice, and yes, rare award. Some of my takes on what has been said... Bravery? To a certain degree probably yes, but more "indireclty". Takes some guts to keep treating the heavily wounded in a field hospital under enemy fire, but you don't "see the white in the eye of the enemy"... Bravery not worthy of the Knights Cross? I would say no. That's what the DKiG was there for.

The Pz officer with the RK to the KVK and all the lower classes... I could very well see him being in charge of the Rgt level recover and repair units. With the forces being outnumbered and the units stretched thin, sustainment was just as important as the actual fighting... Just not as "sexy".

As for value, there were a couple of KVK RKs with swords on the e-stand in the second half of 2017 if I remember correctly... Prices were ok, but they did not fly off the shelf in no time... Will their appreciation grow and result in a price increase? Who knows. Speaking from my limited experience over the past 20 years, the gap between the EK and KVK RK probably grew even wider in favor of the EK RK. The latter seem to have also recovered from the 2008/9 dip. In fact, again from my observation, some seem to fetch higher prices than before. It is ironic though, that the DKiS has always been more expensive than the DKiG. But that's because the DK is a class of its own.

Are they rare, are they special? Rare - yes. Special - no. Neither one translates directly to desired and expensive anyway... I have had many RKs of the EKs but not a single RK to the KVK. Same with DKiG and DKiS... Sure, this speaks to my narrow mindedness;-) but it also is representative of the majority of collectors.

All aside, it is an attractive and significant award, especially a silver Deschler piece, and I am happy for the owner. Congratz! I will also admit that I do regret not getting and owning at least one set;-) So, maybe one day I will get one.

      Best,
      Al

It is as it always was: once the people know for what an order was awarded they do appreciate it far more.
There was just not enough information “out there” ( and some of it blatantly false). People just don’t like to read, only look.

THAT is the truth! Respects to you, Dietrich. Most of us, myself included, like to take the easy route...spoon-fed.
