OK ... that`s where you got it ... hmmmmm ?
Would need to see it in hand .
It has been masked for sure now . What I cannot tell -- was this done for the frosting - or was this done for a core repaint !!!!
As the sample I have shown - with the uneven edge -makers did not mask the frame to apply the acid paste .
This was done before assembling as the paste could only be left on a short time and immediately had to be washed off !!
All I can say at this point ... it still might be a repaint .
Doe to the high lead count in the paint ... over time the paint surface will naturally oxidise . Uneven slightly grey sheen or hue - usually shinier twords the middle .
The acid paste is ugly stuff as it dissolves metal - a wax coated form - tight fitting mask has to used to do that ... would be a one time use item .
Jarek noticed that so perfect even black paint right away - which can indicate a modern repaint .
Undecided at this point .
EK2 review many thanks to all that gave info
Thanks doug & all i can say is I've looked under a mini micro scope & magnifying glass & it doesn't look like it's been painted to me I've seen crosses that's been painted & this does not look like a new paint job but I'm no expert as for a maker there's no maker under the frosting on the ring I've even looked at my other crosses and they're maker marked i put one on for review the other month 65 K&Q looked at that just looks the same but a worn piece.. but like you said it could of been masked off if it was that's quite a tricky job to do without getting just a little bit of paint on the beading anyways many thanks for your help much appreciated.
Oh forgot to say i had malcolm from mandmilitaria in the uk & he give it the thumbs up... takecare doug Regards SpM blueboy89 Steve
