    Printed cloth EK1

    Gentlemen,

This is not something I would normally dabble in. I don´t know much about EKs and not a thing about cloth but this turned up today with rather good provinance.

Its very fine printing on "nessle" cloth. This has then been sewn to a green/grey uniform cloth backing.
I have seen pictures of people wearing these but never personally encountered one before.
I would be most grateful for comments from people with more knowledge than myself.

I´ll be posting a duplicate in the cloth forum as well.

    Thanks. Skip

            Thanks for the responses guys.

I know this is a difficult one. Indeed it does have a very 3D effect if you look at it long enough.

I suppose the only way to verify this would be some kind of SEM testing.

I like this one. It really appears to have 3 dimensions and is very nicely made, the print, the stitching and so on... IMO there is a very good chance, that this one is real.

              Interesting piece, Skip

              best,

                Dear Skip,

I doubt it is good. One can almost tell by the looks of date, beading, reflections, shadow and other details that the image was scanned from a real, metal Iron Cross. It is not an image made by an artist/printer, it is just too good. Look and compare with printed wound badges e.g. and see how rough in detail, shadows, refelctions these are.
                Cheers, Frank

I'm with Frank. It looks too good (i.e., well made) to be true. As Jim asked, were they capable of such detail (the beading?!) back then?

It looks to me like the beading area on the 3 o'clock arm - upper / inner, if that makes sense - is straight, almost exactly like a fake I posted here recently. Whereas the others are all uniformly curved.
Unless it was nighttime, or the weather was bad, and you were running out of gas - then it was a sweaty nightmare, like a monkey f*ing a skunk.

Thanks for all the opinions guys.
So we lean towards fake but are really unsure. I can take that. It came from a good source and he will be getting it back again.
