      A nice Rettenmaier EK1 .
There is only a little bit of silver plating left on that one .
The base metal is a Ni-Cu alloy - which is called 'German Silver" but has no actual silver in it .
In polished state closely looks like silver only -- now however do not polish yours - best left as is - tarnished .

        Silver stamp

I've heard that these were made of Silver but I also know that there are Ek1 and EK2's with a Silver stamp '800' on it. Same as the Ritterkreuz (Knights Cross). So its probably this 'German Silver' thats actually made of other stuff, unless you have the '800' stamp in your Cross.

The "800" stamp is very deceptive on TR 1st and 2nd class EKs .... an added value enhancing marking - to sell for more money .
Testing is the only way to be sure .
