    RK nightfighter grouping

RK nightfighter grouping for sale in Craig Gottleib's site:

    http://www.craiggottlieb.com/engine/....asp?Item=6915

I know that the grouping was once owned by Gordon Williamson in the past. It appears odd that there is a nightfighter clasp in gold, but not the ones in silver or bronze. Additionally, the pilot's badge is suggested to be an "add on". There are a few additional single victory cups floating around in different collections, as well as a nice desk ashtray/ornament in the shape of an airplane owned by Ludwig on this site.

Given the relative lack of additional personal items and the absence of other awards that we would expect, any opinions on the valuation of the grouping?

Also, in situations in which a flyer is killed in action (Sigmund was killed by friendly fire), I wonder about the medals appearing in a grouping. Many medals, of course, were worn in action on the pilot's uniform. Some of those medals would be presumably either damaged or lost as a result of the crash, yet the awards always seem to be present in groupings. Am I being too suspicious?

The RK is not a S&L as Craig writes, it´s a K&Q IMO

It actually is an S&L- take a look at the beading and the 1939. Some S&Ls have relative lack of finishing on the interior of the ring which makes them look like a K&Q RK. The RK is a perfectly fine S&L- that is not a problem.

I can say one thing for sure, I contacted G.Williamson a while back about the Sigmund Knights cross, and he told me that when he owned it, that it was only the cross and some paperwork.

I own one of the Sigmund killcups, shown here:http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ght=silver+cup

Then it is for sure put together, the original Sigmund cross was a S&L cross.

I suspected this much. Many times these "groupings" tend to accumulate additional pieces over time, sometimes simply for "display purposes" and in other instances an attempt to increase the valuation of the grouping.

This grouping had the "feel" of a put together grouping and I was looking for the opinions of others. This happens quite often, which is why it is nice to get groupings directly from the families.

Knights Cross of the Iron Cross- made by S&L (Steinhauer & Lueck) and is the "A" type with "800" marked frame and magnetic center. The core shows some browning due to wear and use; the silver frame appears to have been polished but is starting to tone again. The "800" marked ring also shows use and toning. The cross retains its ribbon with hook and eye straps, which show wear and use.
It is very sad that after such a long time of being able to get all the information about Knights Crosses - be it online or via books - a dealer cannot distinguish between a K&Q and an S&L! Nothing is more easy and it really makes me doubt about the ability to seperate the good from the bad in general (since it shows a lack or willingness to educate oneself!)
And what I also find interesting is that ordinary rust (which is nothing bad and a normal chemical process over time) is now called "browning"! The color is not browning - the freaking iron core is rusting!
