German cross in gold -- any good?

this medal belongs to a friend of mine and he's going through some of his medals.

I told him I feel it's an older repro... but.. to be on the safe side... want to confirm.

Construction looks quite off for it to be an original.

it seems a little "thicker" to me than two originals I had over the years.

There is nothing right about this cross. But the dead giveaway is the wreath.
