Thomas / Marc there's plenty of frosting within the recesses of the 935 it just doesn't show well in the photo but under 30x it's obvious.

      Dave-

How does the shape of the "4" on your cross match up with the "800" "4" marked S&L RKs?

      Nice pics!

Thanks Tom but I can't say...I've only seen pictures of the 800/4.

Perhaps Erik will post his cross. These 935 crosses as well as the 800 "4" pieces are puzzling as far as the timing of introduction. I guess one would assume both are post 1942, but why the two different silver contents? Imperial PLMs are 938 silver. Perhaps left over silver stock?

              Hi Dave,
Great RK. Here is my example. According to the vet this cross was captured in the Ruhr pocket. It was aquired in 1978. The 4 935 is upside down.

S&L made those 'Der Stahlhelm' badges in 935 silver.

At a guess, and it's only a guess, they punched out the frames with 935 silver intending them for private purchase but then either the order to use only '800' grade silver or the prohibition of private sale rendered this plan redundant. Then later the frames had to be used up and were marked '4' as per regulations before assembly along with '800' marked frames.

Probably plently of holes in that but just a guess. What I find odd is the variety of stamps such as small '800', larger '800' and incused relief '800'. I wonder if these different stamps also show a time-line?

                      Hi Dave,

You are right about the frosting on both the MM and the SC number.

Do you also, or someone else, know why the mm and silver content number are most of the time upside down on 935/4 marked crosses.

Richard- That sounds like as good of a guess as any. That would explain the lack of flaws on any of these with the single die theory. Although Dietrich had a post the other day that he has some information on these flaws and time lines which he is going to discuss in the future.

Jody- I cannot see the stamp. Is that a "800" "4" , or "935" "4"? Are there flaws in that cross on the 3 oclock arm? Thanks
