My first EK2 for review Unmarked

    Hi,

I'm a new collector and just received my first EK2 and was hoping to get some opinions if real or fake. I don't have the experience to be able to tell myself.

I have pretty high hopes; got it from a trusted dealer and am super pleased with how it looks. It actually looks better than I expected.

    Thanks for any opinions given.

I believe this to be a Rudolf Souval . It could be either late war or quite possibly post war mfg.
I have one and enjoy it, although I believe mine to be post 1945 and made for the souvenir market.
They're an interesting part of the overall history of the Iron Cross.
Is the ring soldered to the cross on one or both sides?

If you read this article on Souval crosses http://184.172.36.50/forums/showthread.php?t=143349 it may answer your questions. Jim

swjXE I believe it is soldered... that's a shame I really had high hopes of authenticity. Thanks for the reply

If the dealer is reputable he will take it back. Souval EK are not for the beginner nor faint of heart. Stick with the other makers and keep a watch on the Estand as numerous come available there.

          Regards,
          Stu

Thanks for your help Stu. If I could ask just one last thing; to make sure I don't come with false info to the dealer, is a soldered ring on the cross a deal breaker and is mine definitely post war?

I also wonder what a post war Souval is worth? I paid $100 it certainly can't be worth that nor was it advertised as such. I'm wondering if it holds any extra value than any other fake being that it was made by a maker who did make TR era crosses? Can't decide if I would accept this as part of my collection should it be worth something more than nothing? I think about that should getting this sorted out be a pain...

Stu again thanks for your help, you've really cleared things up. Sorry to be a bother but I didn't read this close enough the first time, it is actually soldered on only one side if that makes a difference?
