    DK for discussion

I was asked to put this cross for discussion. It was sold as original DK in Silver. For me it looks like a gold version of a very controversial S&L...

For me it's a 'No Sale'!

The 'Gold' or 'Silver' version doesn't even come into it
with this one. The swastika isn't even formed properly
& THAT is the "Heart" of the award!

Just need to add that swaz is perfectly fine here. It's just a trick of the light.

              cross

I think it is post war made as it doesn't have the number 4 on the pin. And I say it looks to be silver but a little tarnished . Cliff

                hmmm....

Wether is got a "4" on the pin or not, wether is made by S&L, it's a post war cross.
Tell your friend to pass on it.

I don't know if the inside of the pin is stamped "4" (which would be unusual). But if not, it is clearly not a wartime example. The batch ordered in July 1944 by Doehle (which never made it to him, evidently) was for sure required to be marked "4".

                      Hi Dietrich,

The cross is unmarked. But am I correct it's a gold version of S&L? I can't recall I've ever seen silver crosses by this maker...

                        Hi Alex,

Postwar S&L for me as well. Several classic signs of postwar S&L production IMO; the pin with tool mark at the top is classic 1957-era S&L production. Hollow rivets are also another sign of postwar S&L (in my opinion). Unmarked pin. The finish, especially on the reverse of the cross also looks low quality compared with wartime S&L production IMO.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Alex, here is a Silver grade S&L cross. This is one from the postwar souvenier boards that emedals sold a few years back.

Another Silver S&L. This one has a marked pin, and the pin doesn't have the 1957-era tool mark on the top, however for sure 100% fake IMO.

The order, of which Mr. Preuss reported, was for the gold and silver version. There was enough time to produce, but evidently not enough to deliver to the PKZ in Berlin. No S&L DKs in Klessheim.
The 4 marked examples have a chance to be war-time made, but that is hard to prove. Maybe unshipped stock distributed post 1945.
