Maybe "field" made. the cross appears to be copper and the swastika in brass.

I have seen more that 4 Hand Made KVK1 like this.
Maybe it would be very intersting the storry behind.
When we talk about field made, it would be very easy to take a KVK2 and convert it into a KVK1. But this was done without having a KVK2 and good sources of material and solid craftsmanship.

Quite possibly "made on board" a ship.

They have different metals on hand for the various
repairs they may have to make or fashion....

The swastika area looks like it may have been cut
from 'brass bar stock' of a circular fashion & then
design laid out & hand-formed with saw & files.
