I know this question is based on a computer image Leroy,

how many dents would you classify this one as having ?

The reason I ask is because I can see more going towards the center of the cross after number 14 or is it the camera/ computer monitor playing tricks on me ?

        Many thanks,

        Chris

Chris - IMO, this cross does, in fact, exhibit the presence of additional dents leading further back up the lower 3 o'clock arm in the direction of the center of the cross. I have seen this in person and under magnification when examining "B" crosses in hand (absolutely critical to the evaluation of any such pieces), so while lighting may play a part when evaluating a photo only, the "phenomenon" is a reality, not a figment of the imagination. I truly believe that crosses, in the hand-finishing process, were "buffed" to reduce the appearance of the "dent row", some more than others and, of course, each individually done. It is for this reason that the appearance of the "dent row" is not in all cases a reliable reflection of any timeline of manufacture.

Douglas and Sanya - Dietrich (I think) believes that the "dent row" was caused by "weld splatter" during the alleged repair of the "A" die to close cracks in the die on the cross arms which caused raised beading flaws in later "A" crosses. He can expand on this theory.

Here is a supposed "buffed" dent row on 3 o clock of a Sedlatzek (Souval) frame. Is there a way to connect to S & L?

              regards
              Andreas

I don't see any way to connect the Souval frame to the S&L B-frame.

                Regards,

That flaw not the same as on the S&L .
Possibly hit be the trimming tool ?

Just wanted to re-visit one of Sanya's new photos. The loop is a wonderful loop, with the bottom inside "curve" finished "flat", which is something I always look for.

Sanya - Based on what I see, and not having had the chance to see it in hand, I feel that it has a very good chance of being a wartime made piece, not for award but for display or some other purpose.

(Now I am sure the counter-opinions will appear. )

I am really not in a position to judge your feelings. If the purpose of these threads is to give people a good feeling about the things they own, your comment is perfectly fine.
