    First class cross copy?

    Hi
Please bear with me I am really trying to learn things here. This cross was offered to me and I have rejected it as I believe it to be a copy. My reasons are that firstly it appears to be a one piece construction and non magnetic and secondly the silver plating around the edge appears to be lifting. Also, the catch looks wrong.I am sure there are more obvious reasons to the experts but these are my reasons.I have made a search of the forum and cannot find mention of original one piece iron crosses of this nature. The reason for me posting this is that I want your confirmation that I have made the correct choice here and not passed on some ultra rare cross at a bargain price
    Thanks for your patience
    Regards
    Andy

      Hi Andy,

Are you sure it's one piece?? Can you get a photo from the side??

If it's a single piece strike, it's a damn good one.

          Hi Alex,

From what I can see, I agree. And it looks to be a 3 piece cross looking at the beading and core.

The swaz looks like its stepped to me that or its just shadow? Must say its hard to tell if its three piece, beading does look good but that could be black paint around the 12 0 clock inner arm of the beading. Sure does look good though

                side pics

                Hi
This is the best my camera can get. I have looked at the sides through a glass and I think I can see a very faint seam on one arm only. What about it being non-magnetic and the silver plating wearing or lifting slightly. This was offered to me as original for 170 euros but I declined it as I thought it to be a copy. your further help would be appreciated as if it is ok I might still be able to get it. If it is Ok have you any idea as to maker and can you tell me what the core would be made of if not iron
                thanks

An original cross, Andy. Nothing to worry about. I think it is a Wächtler & Lange (100 or L55) and the core might be brass or zinc.
                    Cheers, Frank

                      Many thanks

The cross seems quite light. would this indicate that the core is more likely to be zinc? Also, is 170 euros a fair price?
                      Regards
                      Andy

                        Andy,
The pin is unmistakeable - W&L. No doubts a good one at a fair price!
