Hello Dietrich, some infos for you:

This KC was awarded to the late Generaloberst Dollmann at 24.6.1940.
His whole lot was sold in Hermann Historica auction, vendored by thed aughter who is still alive.
The buyer of this (massiv,large) group still has everything and has contacted the daughter also.
Beside all medals (set of oaks awarded posthumously,all docs, liiek formal KC map.... and many fotos of Dollmann,wearing this KC...) this lot was a very fine "time capsula".

Most likely is the daughter doesn't know who has made this KC

It makes less sense now!! Why would an attributed Knight's Cross, to a General no less, be valued so low!

thanks very much for posting this additional information. This surely help future identification.

Other then the fact that this unknown cross is now attributable to a very high officer and has therefore dead solid provenance I find it also very interesting that Generaloberst Dollmann got two crosses. I always thought the Oaks came without another cross.

Why do you say he got two crosses, Dietrich? Is there another one out there attributed to him as well?

If so, it would not be uncommon for the recipient to have a private pruchase cross, as the award date was prior to the private sale ban

I have check quickly my archivated S&L's and have some crosses with provenance and with these die-flaws. all later awards from 1943-45. and all only marked "800". i.e. The super ncie complete oakleave set to Generaloberst Dollmann,vendored by the daughter to hermann Historica and sold in their rooms was also die flawed.A full untouched large lot,posthumously awarded oak's after Dollmann commited suicide.
But more pics of die-flaws to come when I have some time.

It does not sound like a private purchase. Sounds like he got the oaks together with a flawed S&L posthumously. An untouched lot with two crosses!

Wouldn't the Oaks have been sent in its case rather than 'mated' with a Cross.............or were two cased items (Oaks and Cross) sent?


I realize things become 'fuzzy' after so many years but it seems odd to be sent another Cross as after all he died of a heart attack...not battle field conditions so awards and personal items etc. would be intact and likely sent home.

Perhaps they wanted to "present" the award to his Frau and attached the oaks to a KC for effect. Could have been a good foto op.

Don, in June '44!!! Not likely...especially when the decedant died of natural causes.

This entire discussion to include the initial one authored by Dietrich is very confounding!

The more I look at the recent pics and the 'inset' I begin to see that there's more curvature to the arms on the pic as opposed to the inset...

But then, we all understand pics can be deceiving..

What does JUN 44 have to do with anything. If the guy was liked/respected he would have had a fancy state-like funeral. The NAZIs (and militaries in general) love a good show and stand on ceremony. The second cross w/oaks could have been the award for his funeral pillow.

I have to go with DOn on this one - look at the funeral for Luth, a full Nazi state affair - and that was AFTER the war! And he was shot by his own people.

And regarding photos. Be wary. My sister's breasts look real in photos...
