    Envelops Vs Cases

    Here is a quickie:

Why where some awards like the EKII awarded in a nice black case and others EKII in a plain brown paper envelope?

    Hello John

When awards were awarded in the field they were simply packaged in the paper envelopes, this was due to the mass numbers of awards presented, shipping and cost to production, however many soldiers would purchase additional pieces from the various LDO firms which depending on the maker and how much the soldier wanted to spend would ether come in a paper envelope or a box. I have yet to see an issue EK2 in a presentation box, however I have seen a few LDO EK2’s in boxes, these are quite rare and worth snapping up if you encounter them. Beware as both the cases and the Iron Crosses have been extensively faked. Awards like the EK1, DK and the RK were more prestigious and so where presented in the nice cases we see today.
