I saw that too and downloaded it for a closer look. I was burned by one of those puppies a few years back. Mine was marked 800 L/12.

In the photo, the rims look all out of whack too.

To me it looks like a EK1/EK2 and a ring of some sort put together. Not an RK at all.

I agree, this cross was added to the photo. It jumped out at me right away. Having been the victim of one of those fakes, it's a habit to look closely at these old portraits.

Although I think it was to put the RK into what he (the recipient) probably thought was a nice photo taken before he won his award, or possibly added by the family. It wasn't an uncommon practice, and was probably (judging from the cross) done post war.

The contrast isn't right, the award is mis-shapen, and it isn't a real RK.
