The man I acquired these from read about Buchting, and wrote him a letter in 1991 or 92. Eventually, Buchtring's son - Jan Gert Buchting responded. His father had passed away recently, but he was grateful that an American would write and express respect and admiration for his dad's service. He enclosed these badges, and some copies of photos: 2 of his dad in uniform, another with his dad waving at a corvette (which is a boat he commanded), One of his dad at an older age, a calling card, and what may be an obituary and funeral announcement? I can't read these but am guessing because of the nature of the exchange and their appearance. The wound badge in silver is cased, solid back, and unmarked that I can see (beautiful). The WMC is a screw back type with "L58" on the spinner and the LDO marked case. Nice, frosty finish. Buchting served off the Noweigian and Finnish Coast, and then in the Black Sea. We received the RK for heroic action involving the sinking of many ships and aircraft shot down by his E-Boat. Immediately after getting the award, he assumed command of the flotilla.

Thanks Dietrich, I just can't add the character above the "u". But you are correct. Here is a copy of the period news clipping about his KC award that his son included with this other stuff. It seems odd that his son would send a medal of this quality that did not belong to his dad.Attached Files
