DKiG to OBERST Ludwig Merker. (silber goblet)

I picked this up a while back though I wish I knew which German cross was his. Am I reading his record correctly that in Jan of 43 he was a Lieutenant General?

The folder has a lot of documentation.. Here are a few pages curious if anyone can translate the highlights.

Looks like he earned the Knight's cross before he got the German cross in Gold... Is that common?

    thanks for any info.

    Cheers J

This looks like a summary page of all the ranks he earned.

He was a well qualified commander, but trouble with his stomach forced him to leave his command and take time off. DKiG after the RK happened now and then. You could be awarded the RK for one single action/operation, but for the DKiG you have to qualify several times (exceptions occurred), several "smaller" deeds so to say.

Jumper, thanks for interesting information. I look for many years information on this person. Has found the address of his family. Has written them the letter, but hasn't received the answer. I hoped that documents of November, 1941 were stored in his family archive.

This newspaper to me was sent by the daughter of the veteran of the 215th infantry regiment.

Congratulations, a very nice cup and a precious documentation.
The engraving work done by hand is remarkable.

Very nice Goblet. And extreme Unique as well. Would wish to have one beside my DKs. Only problem is, how the hell can someone polish this??????? That reduced the Value and destroy the Flair complete....before it was great now is

After all these years it never ceases to amaze me that some people feel the need to polish these items. I find it incomprehensible however its not my goblet so good luck with the sale. It sure was a beauty and in 8o years from now it will look as good again.
