This is another pic of the EKI in its case, which does not appear to be marked. Is it possible to say if the case is correct from the pics.

Is it possible to state that the EKI is a late war one because of the type of material used or did the style change slightly?

No Peter : 2 things .... the square button cases were only early cases .
Now the PKZ marked crosses - your EK1 marked 26 - this marking started around 42 - using this date for simplicity sake .... so your EK1 is probably mid period .
