Hello All,
I am hoping someone will be able to help me with this RK case.
I would like to know if it is wartime, a 1957 type or just a good fake?
I have two other ’57 period cases to compare it to (one is an early S&L domed base type with outline on the lid and the other is a later flat bottom version with plain lid), but this case seems to be of better quality than the ‘57s.
The most obvious difference between them is in the inner lining of the lid - the 57’s seem to have some kind of ‘sponge’ padding under the silk liner, but this one is very different - it has a rougher, coarser feel - almost like horsehair or something similar under the white liner.
The outer paper wrapping seems quite different too - the 57’s have a slight glossy finish to the paper, while this one has a duller more matt finish and a totally different pattern to the ‘faux leather’ effect.
I have managed to lift out a portion of the base insert but cannot compare it to the 57 versions without damaging them.
Lots of pictures to follow - they will describe it batter than I can!
Any and all opinions are welcome.
Regards - Danny
