    DK and case

Hi guys, unfortunately these are the only photos I have but I know there are some that can spot a wrong un from even poor pics.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Cheers - Greg

      Hello Greg -

Yes, better pictures would of course be greatly helpful but if that's all you have…. In any event, I have 3 Godet marked DK's which this one is purporting to be. However, having had experts look at all 3 of them, only 2 of them are confirmed as "good". Funny thing, the one that's bad is a really good bad one if that makes sense. Now, comparing the 3 I have to the pictures of the one you have, the pictures of yours look closest to the bad one I have. The similarities are - the top pin catch is lower on the cross on yours and my bad one than compared to the 2 originals I have. Also, the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock rivets on my two good ones are more in a straight line with the top and bottom ones on the same side of the cross rather than more toward the center like yours and my bad one. Furthermore, it appears that the overall size of the rivets are just ever so slightly bigger on my bad one and yours than on my two good ones. Lastly, the pin itself appears to be just a bit longer on my two good ones versus my bad one as well as yours. I'm not saying these are the only issues, but with the pics you have they're the ones that are easiest to tell.

I can't tell much of anything on the case, and for that matter I've never delved much into those even though I have a gold one and a silver one.

I can't say yours is good or necessarily bad and perhaps the differences noted below can be found from cross to cross or early war versus late. I can just tell you what I can observe based upon the two not-so-great pictures you posted. So, if I were seriously thinking of buying the cross I'd have the seller send it directly to Dietrich before paying for it, which I've done on occasion on higher end items.

Funny thing, as I'm no spring chicken I've owned quite of few DK's over the last 3 or so decades. And what's not so funny is that I've become more and more familiar with the DK by necessity and not because I enjoy the forensics side of collecting, i.e., since I've bought my share of bad ones. The fakers are getting really good on these things and, even though I've been told one my 3 Godet marked DK's is bad, I still keep it in a drawer as I just can't believe it's really bad based upon the quality of the thing!

Hope this helps in some regard. Mike

        nice cross and nice case!
if a collector has 3 DKs, you may fastly confirm at first glance
which one is good and which one is bad.

I'd like to see more of the case but from what I can see so far it looks like a modern one. See that fine mesh pattern in the covering material? There have been RK cases this this that were deemed fake.

            Thanks guys.
I let it go, it was at an auction but with a no return policy for Third Reich items.
The catch seems off to me and I wasn't going to risk good money on it.
