    1939 EK1 (Deumer)

    Hello to all,

I bought this Deumer EK1 yesterday at a small military show. Looks like this one saw some use. There are a few hits to the beaded rim and the cross is a bit misshapen, although it is not readily apparent in the straight-on views.

    Best regards,
    Tom

Here is a view that shows the distortion to the cross:

It is an original Deumer but in my opinion repaired.
So many traces of welding along the edges on the back side let me think that was damaged and frame and backplate separated.

              Hi Fabri,

Yes! Quite possibly repaired. With so much distortion to the cross you would almost expect the frame to split open somewhere. But the iron core withstood the damage and did not crack.

              Best regards,
              Tom

Judging from the frame damage around the swastika, I think this cross may have been denazified and then had the core replaced... Here's a mm 15 and you can see similar frame damage around the swastika... None of my Deumers have that kind of "1" abnormality, core from another cross?

                  Hi Ausgang,

Thank you for responding and your interesting comments. I suppose it is possible that the core was replaced, although I really don't think it was in this case. Looks to me like it just got banged around from wear in the field. But hard to tell for sure. I am pretty certain, though, that it is a Deumer core.

                  Best regards,
                  Tom
