Hard to say with out testing to see what the frame is made of . Can't see them having a 800 stamp out in the field either .
On the 're-converted' one I have - the ring now is over where the mark would have been -- if there ever was one there -
which I doubt very much . Going by the brown tarnish - seams to be coin silver 500/600 maybe which was never marked .

Which source did you use for this information?
I have never heard of that anyone distributed to soldiers 2nd class EKs to be worn around the neck instead of a RK. However I have seen these converted EK2 worn in period pictures around the neck and seen these converted EK2 before.

It was the soldier itself that usually converted his EK2 to an RK (I don't think anyone did it like this, as shown in the thtead starter.). Reasons could be many but the most usual reason was that his Knights Cross wouldn't be lost.

Chet, I don't have a problem if You write: ".... in my opinion". Otherwise I have to ask if this was Your OWN work, when You know that it is postwar done for sure.

To be honest: this one once came from a KC-grouping and went through some collectors hands. I don't know myself if it was wartime done or not and when it got the "800"-marking.
What I know for sure is, that it was NOT offered as a KC but as that what it is for sure - a reworked EK II. In my opinion it would fit perfectly for use on a WWII -mannequin.

Many thanks for taking time to comment this item!
I will put it on the e-stand (together with this discussion).

        Kind regards, Peter

Some very crisp inner corners in that trio. Lovely!
