Cased Grand Cross of the Iron Cross

Any idea how many this kind of cased set still survived?
I believe the marking on the cross is 800 L/12
    Thanks.

No, but I see the case is damaged, which pretty much all are. The case design was really bad. They put a number of tension springs so the lid would pop up when opened. Those springs caused the lid to split at the back.

It can be repaired if you know what your doing.

The 'dipping ring' would make the GC post war made ???
The case - no idea .

After further search - the dipping ring is correct for the Juncker Grand Cross .
The picture is not good enough to check the beading .

What I mean is how many this cased set( the red case together with the GC inside) still exist?

Original case and original L/12 Grand Cross. All original Juncker made Grand Crosses have dipping ring.

The answer is really not that easy, I guess nobody knows exactly how many pieces in total has survived, its like fishing in the dark maybe.

The question that would go along with this is did the Horde GKs come in this case, and the next after that is did they stay with their cases when taken away and then sold etc etc. Surely impossible to know. This looks a great set. Very interesting about the spring loaded lids.

                    Tom,
What does "several" mean in this case?
                    2, 3, 4...etc ?
                    Just estimation is fine.
                    Thanks.

Chen - At a very early MAX show, in Baltimore, many years ago, there was a fellow who had several cased sets (my memory says 6, but that is approximate). I have "heard" that there were 40 made. At the last MAX, I purchased an RK from an older collector and he showed me a photo of a cased set he had. I put him in touch with Thies, as he wanted to possibly auction it. I will follow up with him and see where that stands.

                        Leroy,
Do you mean 6 cased Grand Cross sets displayed at Max show all at the same time!?
I am not interested in knowing how many uncased GC but the cased set( Red box plus the GC inside)
                        Thanks!

Yes, cased. I believe they were all from "a castle in Austria" (no one really talked about the name 'Klessheim' in those days). Perhaps someone else who was at that old show might remember more.

                            Leroy,
Never seen one before, cased or not.
                            Many Thanks anyway.

Forget to ask: Any idea what is the current market place of such cased set? Do not think it was offered before in market.
