have you ever seen such a ek1

i got this ek1 today. it is a one piece - construction and the frame is very thick.

i see similarities to meybauer (needle, hinge, numerals) but i have never seen such a ek1 before. do you know more about it?

I guess we all have never seen one like it before, Stefan. Somehow I like it, it is a bit ugly (in a positive sense!) and has a lot of character! One that I would keep.

I have seen that pin before cant remeber on what type off EK. I M O its a remake but im not shure.

I would have passed on this one, the obverse is crude, the curvature of the arms reminds me of the latest `new` RK´s and the pin is extremely fat.

I might be totally wrong here, but I don´t like it.

( although I hope you got a nice original there)

I thought that all WW2 and earlier EKs were of a three piece construction. How rare is a solid(1 piece) EK and how can I differenciate between a real and repro?

Hi Paul,

One piece EKs are quite rare and with some (apart from the known and widely accepted Schinkel one piece EKs and a few others), you will have nothing but your gut feeling telling you if you should keep it or not.
Now Stefan is a very advanced and experienced EK collector from what I analyze by reading his posts, so you may wonder why he did not immediatly weed this one out as a fake and gives it a certain chance. Sometimes this mindset will leave you with some of the rarest items in your collection, sometimes you might have kept crap! Somehow I have a feeling this could be an ugly, but original, period item, but of course, gut feelings can be wrong.
