Knight's Cross (S and L) for opinion and review please

    Hello WAF.
I was hoping I could trouble some of you experienced collectors and experts to take a look at what I believe to be a Knight's Cross which I purchased at an auction a year or so ago.

To me it looks to be the real deal but I am not an expert just a new collector.

From info on the forum and other sources online I believe it is an S and L of some type due to the 800 marking on both the medal itself and on the metal clasp/ribbon band.

    It is about 48mm wide.

I will upload and ad some photos I have taken to this thread.
If any further angles or different shots are required for you to pass judgement and opinion on the medal please dont hesitate to ask.

Any educated opinions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

You no doubt got it for a real steal right? Well there's a reason. It's fake.

          Really? Thats dissapointing.
I didnt pay what you would expect to for an authentic KC but more than I'd like to throw away on a fake.

How can you tell its a fake?
          What did I miss?

            cross

To me it looks like a rounders cross.

              Hi Dave,

It's a well-known fake called the "New Rounder."

It doesn't match originals in any way (frame design, shape, beading, core, marks, etc.).
              Best regards,
              Streptile

Thanks Tiger and everyone else that has offered there expertise/opinion.
Upon examining a picture of my cross and what it is an authentic version side by side I can see some of the differences.

As devastating as this is to me having believed I had the real deal I do appreciate your help.
Hopefully in the future with a keener eye and more skeptical nature I can find the real thing.

I had paid AUD $$1792.50 for this item (converted to about 1100 Euro for my European friends..900 pound).
I do have the receipt from the auction house though and it is sold to me as "Genuine Knights Cross Of The Iron Cross" so I hope to get my money refunded now I know it is fake.
I will be using this thread in part to help me obtain a refund.

                    Thanks again guys.
                    Dave.

Dave, no problems we are all here to help you as much as we can, Unfortunately that is a lot of money to layout on a fake and a pretty crummy one at that..

One piece of advice Iam sure you will no doubt realise is it pays to run new items you are looking at by the very experienced gentleman her on the forum before you let go of your cash..

Second to that get yourself a copy of Dietrich Maerz "The Knights cross of the Iron cross" Book and then study it well until you are able to recognise the the differences between the various makers and their hallmarks and of course most of all recognise the fakes.

I wish you all the best in getting your money back, If it was any sort of reputable dealer you should get your cash back no issue.

Thanks again Tiger, Im really glad I found this forum its a great site and community.
Shame I didnt find it before I bought the KC.

I'll be posting up any major items I come across well before handing over my hard earned cash.

Appreciate the info on the reference book.
I found some copies on Amazon and plan to purchase one.

In regards to getting my money back we will see.
I had a prompt response from the auction house regarding terms, conditions and non liability for misdescriptions.
I wont be giving up though!
