              Hi douglynn,
nice cased brass cross. As usual, I do not why, with bare brass swastika.
I have senn a lot of brass ones they have had all a bare swastika.

              Best Franki

                Franki-
I noticed that too. I saw one in a book that was a dead ringer for the one that I posted in my thread. Paint probably does not adhere as well to brass as it does to bare iron. I would think that brass may have a less pourous finish than iron, so as a result, it does not adhere well to the high points.
                BTW- Nice cross Douglynn

It could be that it sticks together with the adhesion.
I have also a EK1,curved 3, with a bare swas. So it could be that it was just popular to wear it with a blinking swas. EK1 curved 3 is one of the first EK's and the brass core ones has been only manufactured untill 1941 too.
Assumption: maybe the spirit of the age

Hmm...interesting thought. I think the brass core crosses are my favorite, as the contrast between the dark background and the worn high points creates a very powerful effect. Thanks

I think alot of dealers and collectors alike in the past and probably today, like to show evidence of the 'brass', years ago these were fetching far more money because it was the old myth they were Kreigsmarine versions and were far much more rare etc etc.

Just a futher thought on it.

is there any truth that these are made of brass for use with submariners as in does not rust

Yes, I understand that the paint was, in some cases, deliberatly removed from the swastika by the wearer, so it would stand out. And it does!!
