        Thank you Nightstalker.
There's no paint to find on the rim, only on the core.
        Anyone else an idea ?

i see on the core near the frame the black finish is lighter,i had a ek1 like this i was not sure if the core had been repainted,it could be the the exposed core has been wiped over the years.try wipeing with a cotton bud between the frame and core to see if its dust.

If you read last threads, you'll see a very interesting post about Deschler factory, where after painting the core and treating it in the oven, the cross was assembled and finally repainted again with pistol spray over a template.
May be in this cross the process it's the same.

In most cases one cannot notice or see a repaint - when done nicely . Some times a repaint becomes partially or quit noticeable when done in a way 'sloppy' .
A thin template is used during repaint to protect the beading . A thin 2nd spray of paint normally does not stand out .
It only does when you have a slight color consistency difference ( first paint is baked on and 2nd paint is a quick air dry paint ) - or
                          - when too much paint is sprayed on ! A visible "edge" is left behind where the masking template used to be .
Below a nice example of such template out line on an EK2 .

Looking at Eric's cross - I think the same has happened .
Each company will have slightly different paint - thin or thick paint , pressure and spray fineness variations - so all 'paint touch ups' will not look the same !

Great addition of info. Now it makes sence why there extra paint on the core.
Just great to see this kind of repainting, gives the cross a more impressive look when you put it near a "standard" cross.

                              Thank you guys, much appreciated.
