      Gerhard Rudloff wrote a very good article on these medals in OMJ No.14 in 1976.

      In it he states that that there are two versions, one in iron and one in bronzed iron. He also mentions the ribbon specification.

      Klietmann mentions two more versions of the ribbon which are different yet again!

      IMO the most accurate ribbon is the one shown in the Weitze piece in post #9, although this ribbon was possibly previously assigned to another medal. It is certainly the one which most collectors buy to display these medals.

      The specification mentions that dies for the medals can be suppied by both E.F. Wiedmann Frankfurt/ Main and Deschler & Sohn in München so that could perhaps explain the difference between the bronze version and the iron version.
