    Ek1 flemish volunteer

    Hello,

=> I wanted to show this EK1 that whas awarded to a Flemish SS-volunteer.

=> It came directly out of the family estate.

=> On the back one can see inscriptions made by the volunteer:
    - VHJ = his initials
    - Jampol (Russian southern front)
    - Stettin (Poland)
    - 1943
    - 1944
    - 1945

    => Maker = L/11 for Deumer.

    Hope you'll enjoy,

    Kind regards,

    Nick

I wish I bouth it when I had the chance, a 100% original piece from the family. I also know where it came from. No doubts IMO.

          Hello,

=> No doubt about the fact concerning the award, the EK1 was never in a collection, it came directly from the family estate.

=> After the war, the man was sent to prison, I've also a piece of art that he made during his emprisonment

=> IMHO : a real piece of history.

          Kind regards,

          Nick

I think Douglas is refering to the LDO and PKZ system.
The LDO marked crosses are Private purchase pieces and not awarded.
Yours has the LDO mark for Deumer.

However to be able to buy a second piece you would already have needed to earn a EK1 to make this purchase possible.
Maybe he lost his original at the front or needed a parade piece, but the fact is that the cross is a Private purchase piece and not a award piece, nevertheless it is an original wartime cross.

I also have an L/11 EK1 with exactly the same type of crude engraving. The person who sold it to me did not recognize that what he saw as "scratches" on the back had any significance. I believe that it was the issued award. I believe that at some future time some proof will surface that "L" marked items could be and were awarded to soldiers.
