    EK 1st Class, maker "6."

I used to have an EK 1st class by maker L15 (w/o the slash), which I returned after having read the thread on posted on this forum. The individual whom I purchased the L15 from replaced it with this EK from his personal collection.

It is maker marked "6." for Fritz Zimmerman, Stuttgart.

Your evaluation would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Al

      Hi Al.....

.....looks good on my monitor! The only difference I can see between yours and the one I have is that the #'s are a bit different on the core and the stamping, while exactly as the mark on mine, sits just a bit higher on the pin in your example. Mine also has what looks like a dot too, to the right of the numeral 6.

      Looks good to me.

        Al-

I agree with Bruce - it looks good to me too. Your core seems a bit different but the reverse seems right on. Here's mine...

The cross looks okay to me as well. I would say that it is a late war cross though, as the centre looks like a pressed sheet metal centre rather than the iron centre. If this is the case you will find that the cross feels lighter than a standard one and the swaz has a more rounded finish on the edges of the arms. I have had an EK like this that was marked L/11 and they are 100% correct.
              Cheers,
              Brett

Another nice example for the EK 1 class marked "6" at Christians site:

                  Hi Spitfire!

Your cross is a perfect mach of mine in detail and maker mark.
                  Nice cross.

                    Looks fine.

I had an early F. Zimmermann 1.EK (awarded 16 JUN 1940) to a Gebirgsjäger unteroffizier. Looked just like yours.

Thanks for the reply's and pics everyone. I'm feeling much better about this EK 1 vs. the L15 I returned.

                        Cheers, Al
