    EK2-RK from a colleague

    Hi all,

I am not an expert in anything really let alone medals. I mentioned something about my grandfather to a colleague and one thing led to another, I find out he has a bunch of German medals he got from a friend who's brother passed, he knew nothing about them. Here are the WW2 ones, I told him from my untrained eye the EK1 and 2 Knight's Crosses looked fake. I didn't like the look of the EK1 and the RK's are marked 008 on both sides and identical, one is coming apart. Given the other 3 I wouldn't be surprised if the EK2 is fake too, though, to me it looked ok for what that's worth. All are 3 piece construction and the thread passed a burn test.

    RK#1

    case

RK#2 (coming apart on the right side which is why the core isn't centred)

EK1 (red fuzz is from the case it was in...could be rined off...)

    EK2

Agreed. That EKI hardwear looks like post war '1957' type?

            Rk

The Knight Cross are typical for
post war Souval. Some collect these
so have a little bit of value.

Not sure about the ribbon. The case have a wrong
lock- Replaced? not sure about the case?

The RK's are by Rudolf Souval who made them post war, the case is not wartime but a standard "De-Luxe" case supplied by Souval to house his RK's, the catch is not replaced but as manufactured, as mentioned they have some value to some collectors, (Look at prices now being asked for them) as for fake, they are what they are, souval postwar examples, fakes are pieces made to look like and pretending to be something else such as copies stamped L/12 or lazy 2 which are clearly not made by Juncker

Yes, postwar Souval RKs have become collectable and do have a value, and if the asking price is realistic it will find a new home.

Agreed they do tend to disappear quite quickly of e-stand when sensibly priced.

Out of curiosity, I wonder if Souval ever actually marketed and sold his post-war pieces as genuine wartime production

Thanks all, apparently they were purchased as original by the person he got them from, this was well before the internet age and likely not from Souval directly. At least he died never knowing. I forgot the ribbon for the cased one, no doubt the same but I'll post it for reference, all crosses are magnetic too.

Very cool on the RK, at least they're nice fakes haha, is the EK1 souval too? I'm happy the EK2 is original though, that's what I thought too!

In best case but probably impossible to ever find out = replacement medals.

A very nice Souval silver frame RK. Having the box still with it is a big bonus. I'm not sure if the ribbon is Souval, but may well be part of the set. This would sell happily on estand. Matthieu and Alex W could give you an idea of a realistic price. The boxes are not easy to find.

Best I can tell the darker ribbon belongs with the cased cross, it's been with it at least a few decades as he said he never even looked at them beyond receiving them. Thanks everyone, lots of fun, the work day flew by when I had these to look at and share!
