Well there is a chance someone treated it with some oil based substance that it would preserve better

Jorge, please post pics. Dont do anything if you are not sure what you're doing.
If it's oil then just take some toilet paper and very gently wipe it. The paper will be greasy if it's oil.

Like he said ... be careful .
Pure-Oil is not that great to use . It will slowly 'dry' out and become sticky ! I mean sticky .... all the dust sticks to it !
Absolutely do not use any penetrating oil ( like WD-40 etc... )- it can and probably will lift and flake the paint !!!
A wax coating is better .

                  Douglas,

I have a cross that I know that has been treated with WD 40,
I had understood that WD 40 or CRC will dry away in matter of a few days?

                  Best regards,
                  Daniel

Ballistol is often used in Germany. I have tried it and it works. But will leave a residue. It's possible to apply, whipe dry after a day then apply renaissance wax. = good results

                      Thank you!
I have heard renaissance wax is good and looks like it deserves a try!

                      All the best,
