    To do or not

I am waiting for an iron cross to arrive and it has some rust on the core, especially on the date, now what I wish to know if I should at least remove the rust but do not clean the rest or should I leave at it is. Thanks for any help.

I would leave it as it is. Store it in a dry place. skalp

Depends a bit, I have a friend in Germany who is able to remove rust from crosses without damaging them and they will look absolutley stunning!
But I have seen him do it on cast cores mostly, maybe he pops up in this thread to give some advice?

Thank You Dan, I thought if at least remove carefully even some of it and check under it for more damage.

I use a tooth picker (small wooden ones) to gently scrape some of the rust. If that doesnt work just leave it as is. You could try to use a more aggresive way like using acid, but I wouldnt advice that.

I agree, do you think I should after I scrap the rust put a tiny drop of gun oil in the remaining rust ?

Normally just surface rust, so nothing serious. Should be easy to fix.

Depending on haw bad the rust is, it may pose a long-term danger to the core.

I often use a very (very) small paintbrush and gun oil to remove and neutralize rust.
                    Best regards,
                    Streptile

This from the seller photos, so they are not very sharp.
I will post better photos once I have the cross, which should be in Jan due to Christmas postage rush.
                        Thanks
