Despite the paint effect, they also appear more like the "fat boy" digits on the left in Detlev's catalog from above. Both are of early juncker crosses.

That's the nature of zinc . . .like zinc annodes for example. It's purpose is to be welded to steel hull vessels so the electrolsis (electric corrosion caused by saltwater and friction traveling through the water) will attack the weaker metal the zinc and save the steel hull.

It seems to me it is inevitable . . . in time all zinc will decay away unless the process is stopped. Steel will rust and zinc will rot. I prefer to use an ever so slight drop of petroleum/ wd-40/ or clear very refined motor oil to stop the process.

I had an old IAB, pure zinc, and it was tucked away and forgotten about in old ziker box. When I rediscovered the case years later the zinc IAB had rotted away in the darkness!

I treat ALL zinc pieces and steel ones that begin to rust.

        Thanks Gary-

I will put some oil on it then. I am usually not fond of that, but I guess this one needs it. I really like the early crosses, so I found this one appealing, despite the beat up appearance. Thanks!

          Hello Tom,

Here are the numbers from the one I told you about in our most recent exchange. It seems to be like the "slim" one in DN's photo in #10.

The color of the zinc alloy seems to be just like yours.

          Best regards,
          Albert

            Thanks Albert-

It seems from the dates in Detlev's catalog that there were three types of juncker cores that were used during the course of the war, as there is three slightly different styles of dates. Any thoughts on this?
