My first German Cross in Gold

I am assembling the medals to create a display with his Soldbuch, which recently came in.

It is a Zimmerman DKiG (20). I've never even held a German Cross in Gold before buying this one and was taken back by how lightweight it is.

Here is the display thus far. Only missing the three place medal bar (EK2/4 Year Heer/ WestWall), 2x TDB, DRA in Bronze, and Heer Honor Roll clasp.

Maybe one day I will run into a few of his award documents.

PanzerElite- I sure did. This man played a big role in the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. I feel lucky to be the care taker of this document. The shoulder boards are for ranks he held while assigned to those units. I am now closing the deal on a board that he would have worn while teaching at the Posen Infantry School, an Oberleutnant board from the 236th, and an undesignated Major board that he would have worn after his Posen Instructor job was complete.

I have also an Ehrenblatt document that lists his name, which came with the Soldbuch.

Mr Schneider was nice enough to sign a copy of his book to me as well. The book was very well done in my opinion.

Thank you all for the kind remarks.

So- about the DKiG- is what I have a lightweight version, or do I have a heavy type? Were the the lightweight versions made from aluminum?

              Regards
              Paul Reck

PS: If anyone knows anything about the existance of his other documentation (Wehrpass, award documents, or etc), please let me know. Even if they are not for sale, I would like to have a copy to keep with his stuff.

                      Thank you Dirk,

I have the correct sports badge heading my way(DRA in Bronze, not the DRL here) and my first TDB on hold. Also, a correct medal bar lined up as well. It will keep getting better and better. Thank you very much.

Thanks Panzer and Diego! Panzer Elite, I sent you a PM.

                      Paul

Hello Paul, if you have the light version it should weigh about 44 grams. The heavy version is around 66. Since your DKiG has a back plate under the catch should be the light version. You are correct that the back plate would be made of copper plated aluminum.
