    New on forum EK collector

    Hello fellow collectors,
I am Bert from the Netherlands.
From collecting all I like, I started collecting a few years ago with mostly EK2 1939 and things I get a thrill from.
My gread is big, my wallet is small, so don't expect to much from the collection.
Thanks for accepting me on the forum and your very interesting posts.

Sometimes I get nervous about the good fakes / repros.
Are there some posts about general advises about how detecting the fake EK1 and EK2 1939.

When this is forum pollution, delete it.

    Greatings, Bert

    Hi Bert, welkom
As for detecting fakes, just study originals and know how they look like and
there specifics. Makes it possible to distinguish them from fakes.

Have fun on this magnificent forum

      Hello and welcome!

I'm sorry to inform there is nothing generally that can reveal a fake nowdays, so knowing a original from a fake one takes time to learn.
Nothing you will learn overnight. So just keep your eyes open, suck in all the infos you can find here. If you feel unsure, post a thread here and we do the best to assist you!

      Best regards,
      Daniel

        Hi Bert,

Enjoy and learn as much as possible. Not only from the things you collect but also enjoy to learn about things you can't afford (I've always done that). At the moment for instance, there is a magnificant grand cross for sale at the e-stand.
Nowadays everyone will advice you to specialize as soon as possible. Nothing wrong with that and it works better if you don't have deep pockets like the happy few. But take the time to learn and to enjoy also the best of the best.

        Regards, Wim

          Welcome Bert :
A lot of your own work ahead of you - we will help where we can . Until you can identify makers will take a lot of time and work on your part .
I would say almost every collector here at some point in time has been taken in by a fake . You may want to have a folder with fakes in it to eliminate the usual fakes first .
Just the first step - there are other fakes : the look alike ones - imitations of originals and also the'Frankensteins' that us some original parts ! From there try to identify the maker .
A suggestion that works for me .

You have heard many good advices here!
The one thing that I would especially recommend is the specialization on something!

            Best regards,
            Daniel

                Hello Bert,

                Welcome to the forum.

I will offer three pieces of advice that you may find useful.

First, post clear properly oriented photographs of each of the crosses you currently have in your collection for peer authentication. That way any fakes can be identified as such and removed from the group. Clean the house so to speak.

Second, before you purchase more items post clear properly oriented photographs of each for review to ensure it is authentic. Any reputable seller will consent to that sort of peer review. If they do not then move on to another who will. Remember that with very few exceptions these items were made in the hundreds of thousands or even millions and are readily obtained from various reputable dealers and sellers here on the Estand.

Last, but not least, read over the back threads where people have asked for authentication of their items. You'll soon start to see why other members identify them as good or fake. Their comments will be enlightening and guide you in the future.

                Regards,
                Stu
PS: you will need to pay the 25 USD and become and Association Member to have posting privileges to the WAF server. It's the best money you will ever spend.
