    Iron Crosses With Hollow Core

Could you guys post EK´s you think or know have a hollow core.
Was it certain producers ? Was it early, late or used from the start to the end ?
Was it used only with iron or was it used with brass as well ?
Can we spot a hollow core just by looking at it ?

    Thanks.

I made a simple 3D model of a EK2. How often did they do it this way ? I have done some searching here at the forum but there is little information. Only a indication on that they could have used two (2) core plates and each plate, obverse and reverse would be hollow.

        Hollow

        Hello Peter,
Here is a picture of a EK1 marked 20 on the back that is hollow, You can see in to the inside through the damaged front. The interior space is nearly 2mm deep. The cross is very vaulted. I believe it was constructed with this vaulting.
        Regards,
        Chris

          Peter,

Why do you feel that some EK 2 cores are hollow?

I find the swastika and dates on some EK2´s to be smooth with round edges. From that i get the feeling that the design could have been pressed out from the inside. They used it on The EK1. I wonder if there are EK2´s with a hollow core.

            Cheers.

Any ide off what maker we should test for that? I think its easy to test them.
Just put the core on some firm steel and gently tapp on the swaz. I think you will have 2 diff sounds.
