Regarding the circular shape on the back in the center: Is that an impression/depression in the surface of the backing, or is it residue form a sticker, etc?

It is a concave mark, most likely from whatever method was used to remove the swastika... Its a pretty clean removal so I bet its from some jewelers stand or something like that.
