    Clamshell EK1

    Hi

I never run into these really. Is this a Deumer, or TRYING to be a Deumer.

I was given these terrible pics but I can sort of make out the 3 with the long neck which is a good sign

Rubbing me wrong is the smaller attachment base for the clamshell to screw into, if I remember correctly on Deumers they are larger

Also the reverse of the clamshell itself does not have the small nipple or point in the middle.

The frame itself appears very wide also, maybe the pics are really close.

Any opinions? Somethin just does not s trike me as right on this cross

    Thanks
    D

Dion, how the heck ya doing? Long time no talk!

Are these your pix? They kinda....how u say...."suck". Edit: I see these are NOT your pix.But it looks kinda one-piece from these pix, which would probably be bad. From these pix I would say it isn't a Deumer, the date just doesn't look quite right.

        See what others chime in.

        best

The disc I believe is a fake. Here is my Deumer with clamshell disc, notice the ridges on the back side compared to the one you show. Jim

I was thinking about this when I realized I had misworded my response. Look at the ridges of mine compared to yours. Also, here is a picture of the back with the disc unattached. Jim

Dion, it looks like a one-piece fake to me.
From the pics you show I would pass...

                Hi Dion,

I believe the EKI is trying to be a Deumer but has missed the mark.
Please photos of my two EKI's and shells.
Also note the tapered end of the post.
The nerling does not look correct on the obverse, nor does date

                Cheers

                      Hi Hank and everyone

Of course they are not my pics And not my EK, was just offered to me and I got that mehhhhhhhh feeling

Thank you for link Stefan, I use the site often,

Looks like on the cross part of inner corner frame is coming up but probably illusion in the bad pic, regardless , it looked bad to begin with

Thank you Chief for info on clamshells having ridges on reverse, that is a fast tip , the fake clamshells same also heavier, most I see do not have the small point in middle either.

Here is a quick guide after this thread to look for on a Deumer SB Clamshell I will use now

                      1. 3 with long neck
                      2. Ridges on reverse of clamshell
                      3. larger Deumer type screw receiver

As there are some nice clamshell Deumer's shown in this thread, I thought you might like to see a 1957 Deumer version, still of high quality and using some identical parts............

Decided to go with this minty one instead of shoddy ebay pics originally posted

I know now the clunky clamshells without nipple are bad, never took the time out to learn it , I never run into these much
