Hi Tom, it came in a lot of stuff, I know its not worth a thousand bucks but even in this condition I'm sure someone would appreciate it for their collection?
I have a blood order in similar condition and with a hole drilled in it, but I still very much value that in my collection.
Yes it is an iron core. The frame is separating also plus yes I can now see the gold applied finish, I guess it would come off easy enough

Seriously, I'm surprised nobody has pondered it being a "field converted EK2 to RK", the hole being for the suspension loop or ribbon. I'm disappointed in you guys.

I am also disappointed that you did not think that it could be the result of the impact of hot metal shrapnel ... for egzample

I had looked at that Hank ....
No wear marks of the KC loop that normally would not clear the beading on both sides ... so that KC loop would have to be bent the hell way out of shape at the bottom .
That hole is monsterous and done with a 1/4 " drill . For a field conversion the hole still would have been smaller and through the frame .
Jarek --no - not a result of shrapnel either . You have not seen what flying metal can do to a cross - looks quit different .

That EK I is actully a RK prototype made, to be awarded Hans Ulrich.
It was meant to be awarded to him when he got his Golden O&S with Diamonds.
It is especially the thin gold layer on the EK, that ID this really rare, one of a kind, never seen before RK.
This information has been in a closed group of highend collectors for years, as this extremely rare RK dissapeared some years ago.
And now it has surfaced in the small group that Jon did buy...excellent find my friend.

PS not all (or some) of this written above, may be the truth.
Have a nice day.
