This type of flap would have indeed be done by hand and not by a machine as it involves tucking it into the cut slot found on the back of the packet. This would cost time and also run the risk of damaging the packet.

Hi Gents,

like Marcus already mentioned, I had the good luck to meet one of the dealers who cashed in on this find. He had about 4 bundles of these wrapped up in 50s with a paper banderole. I asked about the origin and he told me the same story about a printing works in West Germany recently going bust. After everybody had moved in to buy up the rest they found a couple of crates of these bags.
Non of the bags were marked with the LDO designation.
Like Marcus already said, these were being sold for 15Euros each. About 1/2 of a 50 bunch had been sold when a picker from one of this sites sponsers turned up and bought the lot for around 8Euro a bag.
I looked very carefully at these before buying 2 of them (yes, I still have yours Marcus). I am convinced that they are legit and the story is true.

Ok. Iron Cross bags are found in bundles from old German factorys. I buy that. Could well be that.
What about the bags for the Eastern Front Medal ? Where are those bundles ?

Well they come as found Peter (I have more ribbons for you I haven't forgotten)

It's just luck of the draw my friend, not to long ago a flooded basement in Berlin was found to have many SS dagger grips, guards etc etc I'll say no more on that.

It's also true to say who you know and not what you know (money talks too !!!) will get you privy info on certain obscure finds here and there !!!

sorry if my thread was confusing

i too work in the packaging industry with papers /card board etc ,
what i was trying to say was that after manufacture of the packets ( done by one person or one dept ) they would perhaps have the contents packed by some one else , so no one is going to waste time folding the flap only to have it re opened then sealed by another person , this does not make sence from an idividual workers view and indeed a managers angle time /again labour against profit ,
having worked on these type of production lines no one will do more than they have to /you wont have the time , hope i have cleared up my point , regards ,Michael.

Arh another printer !!! I'll be picking your brains too.......good to know your vocation and what you do as a job is very important in my research !

The ribbons are by a seperate maker, the awards a seperate maker, the paper maker and printer all seperate of course in my research on these. Some things are common sense but I checked (limited check) to make sure......well I can only be 51-49 with the records left and not least my German !

The packets from the printers were shipped to the award makers where they would put awards in packets or indeed in the case of private purchase......awards were sent directly to outlets and packets either with or seperatly as far as I know...I've only the examples of info from certain makers not all. Some info is third hand too, from German to Russain to English.
