    ek1's!!!!!!!!

There sure has been a lot of mint 26 maker marked ek1's showing up. I am no expert but just can't see how there are so many of them. I have serious doubts that these are real. They look way too good for being 60 years old. I would feel uncomfortable having one in my collection. Does anyone else feel the same as I do?? I sure hope I'm wrong, because these crosses look awsome. I am surely not expert and just started learning. Just my thoughts. Anyone looked into these crosses?

    Nate,

Great idea for discussion! BH Mayer is a known and accepted maker, well detailed in all the literature, including reference to mint ones located in 1999 (in Gordon Williamson's book). I own a mint one and a not mint one and both conform in every way to each other. The rear set-up is very distinctive and easilly identified by the mark-1 eyeball, the mm is also very distinct, with all the marked "26" I have ever seen having a "ghost" or "mirror image" mm on the pin reverse, due in all liklihood to the power of the stamping. We had a great discussion of the K&Q RK, and it has dispelled many myths. I love the 26, would love to have more, and think it is one damn fine EK1!

Now, you bring up the thought that there are a lot in circulation. I think you may have seen a few recently - but what are you talking about numbers-wise? This was also an issue with the K&Q RK, but not really when the discussion really looked at it. I mean, how many EK1s were issued? And as a percentage, BH Mayer looks to have done good business. A year ago I bought and sold about 6 marked 20 EK1. Doesn't mean much to me.

    Regards,
    Marc

Yea and no one know how they did that preserving. On some badly stored EK´s from 26 you will see that nice frosting going away but it can well be seen even then. I think we all wounder how he did do that 26.
