Iron Cross 2nd class with maker mark of 122

    Hi everyone,

My grandfather recently passed away, and I have found an Iron Cross he gave me when I was younger. I really don't have much of a story on it other than I believe it had something to do with a German POW (go figure.)

I believe it is second class from some of the other posts and I learned that the manufacturer mark of 122 means that it was made in Austria?

Is there a way to find out who the original recipient (from a book or german records) was or maybe even possibly...by a long shot...is?

I have included a few photos.

    Thanks

The maker mark, 122, denotes the manufacturer JJ Stahl, from Austria. Unfortunately, without further documentation aside from the cross alone, there is little likelihood of ascertaining the awardee.

Looks to be an original 122 made EK2, however it is impossible from this to get a name of owner. No way what so ever. sorry Tom

          Hi Obert!

Unfortunately the bad news is there is Zero chance from cross alone as Tom states.

The good news is however the patination on the cross is lovely

            Thanks

Thank you to everyone for replying.

I did find this http://www.r-stahl.com/ "Over 80 years in explosion protection." I wonder if perhaps J.J. Stahl is the father of R. Stahl?

Who knows, but it was fun finding out some of this information.

            Thanks again.

            P.S.

Does anyone happen to know the value of this particular cross?
