    Japanese Issued EK2

    Hi all,

I have seen an EK2 in mint condition that was inside a custom wooden issue box. The wood was light tan color and had some faint Japanese characters on the top of it's lid (which simply lifted off and was not attached in anyway). The inside of the bottom portion had a grooved indent, purple velvet pad for the medal / ribbon.

Has anyone ever seen one of these or know of their existence?

Top of box lid (can barely make out Japanese text). Maybe someone with Photoshop skills could bring them out better?

Can you trace the writing and post it in the Japanese forum? I'm sure it could be read there.

@coastie ... yep, the velvet was indented for the EK just like a RK case. Also it had the indent for the ribbon just like it sits. A real well put together piece.

@ blinky, unfortunately, the piece was not mine and the pics I took many moons ago. So I can't do anything to try and determine what the characters were. I supposed looking back, I could have lightly colored a pencil over some paper, but the Japanese characters were not very deeply ingraved into the wood.

Eric Doody might be able to make them out, the first kanji almost looks like "yama"......to me it looks a bit like a name.

If you use bone glue it does not glow.

                It looks newly put together.

                  Sweet piece Darrell. Very interesting.

If I remember correctly, some EK's were issued to Germans serving in Japan during the war. Perhaps the box is some type of issue piece as a rememberance type of item??

I think the Japanese government also produced some EK's. Very rare to find, however, your EK in the box does not appear to be one of them.

In fact, if you look closely at the ring ... there appears to maybe be a makers mark? Seems like something there. Then again it could be the reflection?

I wish it was still around ... I'd love to take a closer look at it.

Yeah Roy .. it's too bad that I never took a picture of the maker mark ... it was a quick looksie and off to see other stuff. You have a good memory. Good article and good read ... only in Alberta eh?
