Yup, this type of Souval is still a controversial piece.

      I fully agree with Douglas.
S&L design, W&L and for me too post-war Souval.

      Regards
      Jarek

          My opinion:
          1. Not S&L but another maker
          2. W&L 100
          3. Wartime Souval
          Best regards,

Souvals I leave to others - when it could have been made .
The first one is a S&L made cross . I have the same one marked 4 . The challenge and uncertainty lies in the fact that S&L supplied components and tooling to many other makers .
Specially early crosses that are unmarked with S&L components . This many years later there is no real determination of which company actually summited them .

              Hi Trevor,
1/ if this is not the S&L design, what is the manufacturer ?
              2/ W&L
              3/ war-time Souval with such date ? (Schenkl's core?)

              Regards

                Hi Jarek,

1/ I'm not sure but it's not S&L. Might be the ubiquitous S&L frame die, but the dates, the finish, the outer shape, the workmanship -- none of this says S&L to me.
                2/ W&L
                3/ Yes!
                Best regards,
                Streptile

                    Trevor, sorry I don't agree.

1/ for me it's typical core (and frame) S&L design - photo signed crosses of S&L for comparison - but of course I respect your opinion
                    2/
3/ for me it is not a Schenkl's core and not Orth's core and not war-time Souval's core ... for comparison photos Schenkl's core crosses signed 27 ...

The same here Trevor - -... have to disagree on the first cross . ... still a S&L ... and not a 'general' type but used by S&L for themselves early on past 41 . S&L was not always perfect and careful .
The comparison ( wish I had a same size one as the small cross does not show the frame tilt that well ) .... to show the - beauty and the beast - in appearance . .. with the same out side 'scued ' frame trimming .
The narrow spot is easy to pick out .
