I find this Otto Schickle thread very interesting A few days ago I bought a WWII EKI on e-stand (because it is screw back and I liked it) and now I have learned a lot thanks to your posts.

The first thing that caught my attention was the similarity between WWI and WWII productions. I do not know much about different EKs and EK makers but I have always been thinking: On the WWII medal it says `1939` but to determine if an EKI is made in 1939 or around 1941 or 1942 must be difficult. But on these Otto Schickles the screw back on WWI and WWII is mostly the same.

So my questions: Are the WWII Otto Schickle screw backs sort of a `hybrid` between WWI Otto Schickle EKs with screw back and WWII Otto Schickle EKIs with pin and catch? Does this make the WWII screw backs early productions like 1939?

I enclose two pictures. The WWII EKI from e-stand:

        Thanks for the comment Sanya.

Although this argument is 5 years old, I think it's nice to have it up on the forum again so we can remember why we call these EKs Schickles. Often people start referring to an unmarked EK or Spange as made by a specific maker, and no one can remember why we think that...

        Hi militaria.no,

        Thank you for your comments.

I don't really understand your questions. The one-piece 1914 EKs shown in this thread (EK2s, EK1 pinbacks and screwbacks) were made (in my opinion) by Otto Schickle from approximately the 1920s through probably 1940 or 1941. The one-piece 1939 EKs (EK2s, EK1 pinbacks and screwbacks) were made from 1939 to probably 1940 or 1941. After that point (in my opinion) Schickle was compelled to change production to standard three-piece magnetic EKs (EK2s, EK1 pinbacks and screwbacks).

If that didn't answer your questions, perhaps you can re-phrase them?
        Best regards,

Trevor, great and methodically carried out argument. Logical thinking course, very close to me. I agree 100%

But always, as we talk about the crosses EK-1939 by Otto Schickle, I have the impression of his enormous diligence (his firm).
So many variants and varieties EK1 and EK2 crosses WW2 in less than two years - Schickle ended production in mid-1941 ...

          Regards
          Jarek

Thanks Jarek. Yes, it is pretty impressive how many EKs they managed to make in a short time, but no Schickle type is exactly common, so it does make sense to me.

Beautiful work Trevor. Very nicely laid out and I follow your logic completely, seems a very straight forward connection to Otto Schickle.

Thanks for putting this together for us. I don't follow crosses as closely as Heer and Luftwaffe badges, but I can certainly appreciate the forensic analysis and threads like this are a big help to badge collectors like myself

                    Hello Trevor

Thank you for your very good answers to my questions. Mine is a three-piece screwback EKI.
