Grand Cross Iron Cross 1939 for review?

    Hi
Any opinions? It is supposedly made by Godet. It has an onyx core, with a gold 14 carat frame that is platinum plated.
    Regards
    John

Rather high quality and good looking, but still a fake. IMO.

Both the die stamped flanges and the engraving on the onyx matches those of the 2 Grand Crosses that were in a silver cased presentation set and were sold by Hermann Historica 2 - 3 years ago. The only difference was that they had platinum marks, instead of gold. However, platinum was cheaper than gold in the 1940s. That set came from the descendant of Göring.

I would expect a much neater weld on the eyering if this were genuine! Just does not look right to me.

                    cross

Hi the frame looks really nice . It be a nice one for a display. In the one picture it shows the back and it is on its side but under the loop at the top it looks to read 585 Is that what it reads? Cliff

Where does the cross pictured above supposedly come from? What's the story or provenance behind it?

                        Hi.
Yes it is stamped 585, which is the gold purity of 14 carat gold. The eyelet is not welded but is a sandwich of both fĺanges that form the cross.

It's not a 1940's produced cross. It's a very nice postwar Souval Grand Cross. Souval made GK's in various different variants, (silver frame with non magnetic core, silvered frame with magnetic core, silver frame with magnetic core, partly gilded silver frame and one with the entire frame gilded. The Onyx core is the variant to complete this lineup. As I do collect them I have them all but this Onyx variant.
The case is also a typical post war Souval case.

                              Best regards,
                              Alex

Here is one of my cased silver frame GK's. Nevermind the cross; The inside of the case is the same as the one shown by you.
