    DM...it's been almost 24 hours!

Detlev has shown he is not all knowing and several 'examples' of this have been brought up right here. He has stood up to and behind these errors....However, now why so quiet?

Considering the the picture, the rather curt response and as stated above, putting a few thousand $$$ (weak as they are) in to 'UNKNOWN MAKER' in my opinion is foolhardy
    Regards,
    Dave

Is this the copy that Gordon is describing on p 468 of his book that describes the correct cross hatching at the center, but that it is "overdone" on the corners? There is not a photo of that cross to compare with this one.

Come on boys!! It's Monday morning and I'm sure no one is really working...

Any new thoughts on this cross?
          Regards,

I contacted Detlev and he said it is a part of a grouping that he obtained from the recipient with soldbuch and other documents. He re-emphasized that it is not a juncker, but given the source and feel of the piece that it is a wartime piece. I asked if he has seem other examples like this as well, but have not recieved that response. He does not feel as though it is an attempt at a juncker, but is a distinct original cross.

              thoughts

I think it's interesting that we are presented with what is apparently a heretofore unknown variant of the RK. And with provenance to boot.

Is it possible that an engraver from Juncker moved to another company to make a dietool for them (who ever they might be) and thus we see the same type of cross hatching ???

                Cheers.

Right down to the mis-direction of the ribbing huh?

It's simply not logical that someone in the period would attempt to imitate another maker right down to the anomaly of the ribbing!!!

Given this new info re the provenance, what are your thoughts on this RK, Dave?

George I think someone slipped in a 'mickey'!!! Provenance, please...the true meaning has been hashed, bashed and crashed until it's so convoluted that in many cases it boils down to a mere 'belief'!

Right back to you....what are your thoughts on this IMITATION Juncker to include style of the ring, ## and off-set ribbing?
                      Regards,
                      Dave

I'm thinking about it, but I haven't reached a conclusion yet.

I'm a cautious guy, Dave. Very conservative and cautious.

If this cross would have been on e-bay and not in Detlev's book, we would already have approx. 5 pages of discussion and another 5 pages of comments like your's . You are a brave man, Seba!

It is a shame that I was revealing the source so early! It' could have been a very good and interesting discussion. Sorry for that!
